Pet Pawtrait competition 2011

The Pet Pawtrait competition 2011 took place in Williamson Park on 4th September as part of the annual dog show held in support of Animal Care.

Sunday was a beautiful sunny day following heavy rain overnight and everyone had a good time. The "Pawtraits" of entries to the competition are shown on the flynnthedog facebook site.

Once again the entries will be judged by members of staff at Lancaster Veterinary Centre.

Why Should I Use Biodegradable Dog Poop Bags?

Scooping the poop may not be at the top of every dog owner’s most enjoyable daily tasks but we’ve still got to do it – and doing this ethically is something we at flynnthedog feel very strongly about.

It just doesn’t make sense to us that traditional dog waste bags are made from unbiodegradable plastic which takes 100 years to break down – despite the fact the these bags’ contents are highly compostable. And with 8 million dogs in the UK alone that’s a lot of waste!

Birds in Your Garden

February is a tough time for birds. Those that made it through this harsh winter will be desperately seeking food supplies which are running out in the wild. So while it is important to feed wild birds all year round an extra special effort is needed at this time.

Common ailments and nutrition

Do you know that many common pet ailments, chronic illnesses and behavioural problems can often be treated through good diet. Equally, they can be caused or made worse by a poor diet.

What you feed your pet can affect even the way your pet smells!

Pet Pawtrait Competition Winner 2010

A dog who was going to be put to sleep just the day before she was taken in by Lancaster animal charity Animal Care has won this year’s flynnthedog Pet ‘Pawtrait’ competition.

Maddie, a lurcher who is around two years old, belongs to Allison Rawcliffe of Patterdale Road, Lancaster.

Bonfire Night

We all know that most dogs and cats hate the bangs and whizzes from fireworks but may be less sure on how to minimise their distress. Here are some tips:

Keep pets indoors, close your curtains, keep lights on, turn the television up and play music throughout the house to disguise the noise and flashes.

Pet pawtrait competition 2010

Building on the success of the first flynnthedog Pet ‘Pawtrait’ competition, which ran last year, pet owners are invited to enter their furry (or non-furry) friends into this year’s competition. What’s more, all funds raised will go to Lancaster’s much-loved Animal Care charity.

The competition will be held at flynnthedog Pet Supplies on Alfred Street, Lancaster, on Saturday, 2nd October 2010 from 11am until 4pm. Taking pictures of the pets will be local professional photographer Steve Pendrill.

Hot weather

Summer is almost here so it's time to think about protecting our dogs from the potentially deadly effects of the heat.

Never leave your dog in a hot car and, if travelling with your dog, ensure your destination is dog-friendly so he can get out for fresh air and to seek a shady spot.
